The Gift of Flowers

There is special joy and meaning in giving flowers for the Altar, especially in memory or honour of a friend or loved one, or in celebration of a special date, such as an anniversary.

For a minimum suggested donation of $60, we invite you to sponsor the flowers that decorate the altar on a specific Sunday in the year.

The donations contribute not only to the cost of the flowers, but to the important work of the Altar Guild year-round, so please be generous.

Here’s how you can participate:

1. Book

At least six weeks before the Sunday, contact the office to book your preferred Sunday. Book early to ensure you get your date.
You can use email, phone, or the sign up sheet in the back of the church to book.
Indicate if you want the flowers to be on the high altar or by the nave altar. (If two people want to sponsor flowers on the same week, one will be on the high altar and one will be by the nave altar.)
Make sure your date has been confirmed before you move to the next step.

2. Donate

At least two weeks before, make a donation by cash, cheque, or e-transfer. Be sure to indicate that it is for flowers.

3. Names

At least two weeks before, give the names you want mentioned in the bulletin to the office.
Email works best for this, but a handwritten note is just fine, as long as your handwriting is clear. If you are making your donation by cash or cheque, there are special “Gift of Flowers” envelopes available.
Write the names or anniversary exactly as you want it to appear in the bulletin. The note about the flowers always begins with “The flowers are given to the glory of God and…”
Your commemoration will be recognized in the bulletin, and will be included in the Prayers of the People.

Providing your own flowers

You may prefer to provide your own flowers for the altar, and you are welcome to do so. The policy above is still required, but when you book be sure to indicate that you are providing the flowers.

The altar guild will arrange the flowers. Please coordinate dropping off the flowers or having them delivered with the office. Thursday or Friday during the day is best.

Christmas, Easter, and Patronal Flowers

We will always have flowers on these high holy days, and everyone is welcome to add memorial names to be honored. The suggested minimum donation to add a name to the list is $20.
