rob@allsaintswinnipeg.ca 431-276-7749
All Saints Church, Winnipeg, is pleased to announce the appointment of The Rev. Robert Hughes Schoeck as its new Rector, effective July 1, 2022. Rob, as he is happy to be called, grew up in Boston, obtained a Master of Divinity from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Berkeley, California and was ordained in The Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Massachusetts in 2015.
Since his ordination, Rob has served as Associate Rector at St. James Episcopal Church in inner-city Lancaster, Pennsylvania and, most recently, as Co-Rector with his wife, The Rev. Lauren Schoeck, at the Church of the Ascension in Twin Falls, Idaho. He is a trained Spiritual Director and has provided spiritual companionship to multiple people, both clergy and lay. In addition, he is a Member of the Fellowship of St. John, associated with the monastic order of the Society of Saint John the Evangelist.
A cradle Episcopalian, Rob has been involved in many church activities and initiatives from his youth onward, including youth leadership development, youth representative on the Massachusetts Diocesan Council, founding member of a non-profit food pantry, leader in education and outreach in ecumenism, teacher of seminary students, mentor and presenter in spiritual interpretation for ordained ministry and member of the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Idaho. He also has five years of managerial experience in the auto parts business and is an Eagle Scout.
Rob is a collaborative leader, open to growth and change. He brings to our church a strong mix of love of worship, a passion for mission and social justice, expertise in spiritual formation and Christian education and the warmth and caring of a truly pastoral individual. He, his wife Lauren and their 4-year-old son, Steven, will arrive in Winnipeg in late June. Once they arrive, Lauren will take time to decide how she is called to serve the Diocese and/or the broader community. We are very pleased that they have chosen to live and help to create community in West Broadway Commons, our housing project next to All Saints Church.
We thank God for calling The Rev. Rob Schoeck to minister at All Saints and we look forward to walking, working and worshipping together in Christ at our beloved All Saints Church.

Born in 1955 in the Australian Territory of Papua New Guinea to American Lutheran missionaries, Tom, who served as a mission pilot in the Highlands, and to Betty, who served, gratis, as a nurse specializing in first aid, attending patients every afternoon and evening at our home in Madang. After boarding school in PNG and in Australia, I moved with my parents to the USA at 13. My family held daily devotions and hymn sings at home and worshipped at Central Lutheran Church in Everett, WA, where I preached my first sermon at 17. Graduating from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN with a double major in history and political science, I later earned a B.Ed. in Social Studies at Western Washington University and a B.A. in Biblical Studies from the Lutheran Bible Institute in Seattle, WA. After wrestling with the idea of joining the US Foreign Service, I followed God’s call to the pastorate, entering Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary, St. Paul, MN, in 1983. Having served as student chaplain at a lock-down psych ward, and a 13-month internship at First Lutheran Church in Ketchikan, AK, I graduated with a Master of Divinity in 1987 and was ordained in July of that year. In June of 1988 I was blessed in marrying Melanie Lewis, whom I had met in a class on the Gospel of John at LNTS.

Dr. Dietrich Bartel – Music Minister
In 1996, with a week’s notice, I was invited to All Saints as interim organist, soon after as the Music Minister, and I’m still here. Why? Because of the diverse and caring faith community, the dedicated and talented singers in the choir, the supportive congregation, and, yes, the fine Casavant pipe organ. Because we can sing Byrd (in Latin), Bach (in German), Tchaikovsky (in Russian), and Pärt, Gjeilo, and Ešenvalds (in English!). Because we can play steel drums in worship. Because we can be the body of Christ to each other and to the community around us. That’s why I’m still here, since 1996. More bio: click here. (p.s. I’m named after Bonhoeffer, not Buxtehude.)
Ben Girgis - Parish Intern
I grew up in the city of Toronto where I spent a majority of my time in the church, whether that was volunteering, attending some event, going to youth group or setting up for a potluck. When I finished highschool, I attended college studying Christian Ministry with a focus on Youth and Children's Ministries and minored in Biblical Studies. My wife, Kaitlyn and I moved to Winnipeg in July 2021 and currently I'm working on my Master of Divinity. I look forward to participating and spending time with the people of All Saints!
Wardens
Sandi Mielitz – Rector’s Warden
I have attended All Saints for 20 years. I sing in the choir and am also very involved in our West Broadway Commons project. Before retirement, I was an executive at Canadian National Railways. Since then, I’ve been involved in a number of boards, mostly in the arts or business. All Saints is home because I can worship with a rich cross-section of people and sing music I love.

Dorothy Jakubowski – Deputy People’s Warden
Church Administrator
Joy Peters
Growing up as the daughter of an inner city Lutheran pastor and a church organist gave me a passion for social justice and music, but my career has shown that my strengths lie in organization and logistics. Coming to All Saints has given me an opportunity to combine my strengths and my passions in a wonderful, welcoming community. When I’m not hanging out with mytwo school-aged children I enjoy baking, gardening, weightlifting, and restoring my hundred year old house.
