Break In Update
As most parishioners have heard, sometime during the night of July 30 our church building was broken into. The stained glass window on the east wall behind the bus shelter was smashed with a large rock. The window leads to the hall between the chancel and sacristy, and the intruders were able to access the building. They entered the sacristy and took all of the silver (chalices, pattens, ciboriums, and trays).
The Winnipeg Police Major Crimes Unit has been assigned to the case, and on August 21 they made a press release about the theft, with a plea for the return of the items. We are very grateful that all the local news agencies have reported on the story. Fr. Rob was very busy yesterday being interviewed and speaking on the radio. If you missed the reports, you can watch or read them here:
Incredibly, one of the missing pieces has been recovered!
The ciborium pictured on the left had been discarded and found by a random Winnipeger who didn’t know what to do with it. When they saw the news articles they contacted the police and it was returned to us.
We pray that the rest of the missing pieces make their way back home as well.
The gallery on the right shows the items that are missing. You can help by sharing the pictures and spreading the word that they are missing.
